Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about McDuffy fresh dog food — ingredients, feeding, delivery, and more.
About Our Food
What ingredients are in McDuffy recipes?
Every McDuffy recipe uses human-grade ingredients you can actually see — real meat (beef, pork, chicken, fish), fresh vegetables (squash, moringa, carrots, broccoli), and essential vitamins & minerals. No fillers, no preservatives, no mystery ingredients. All recipes are formulated by American veterinary nutritionists.
What does AAFCO balanced mean?
AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) sets nutritional standards for pet food. When food is "AAFCO balanced," it meets all minimum nutrient requirements for your dog's complete nutrition. McDuffy exceeds these standards — our recipes are formulated by board-certified veterinary nutritionists in the United States.
What does human-grade mean?
"Human-grade" means every ingredient in our recipes is sourced and handled to the same safety and quality standards as food for people. Unlike most commercial pet food that uses feed-grade ingredients (byproducts, rendered meat meals), McDuffy uses whole cuts of meat and fresh vegetables that you'd find in your own kitchen.
How is fresh food different from kibble?
Kibble is ultra-processed at extreme temperatures (up to 200°C), destroying most natural nutrients. McDuffy is gently cooked at low temperatures to preserve vitamins, minerals, and proteins. Fresh food has up to 95% digestibility compared to kibble's 50-60%. See the full comparison →
What makes McDuffy different from raw feeding?
We gently cook our food — enough to eliminate pathogens like salmonella and E. coli while preserving nutrients. You get the benefits of whole, real ingredients without the food safety risks of raw. Plus, our recipes are AAFCO balanced, which most raw diets are not.
Is McDuffy suitable for puppies and senior dogs?
Yes! All McDuffy recipes are AAFCO complete and balanced for all life stages, including puppies from weaning age (4+ weeks), adult dogs, and seniors. Puppies typically need higher portions relative to body weight — use our feeding calculator for personalized portions.
Feeding & Storage
How much should I feed my dog?
Portion size depends on your dog's weight, age, and activity level. As a general guide: small dogs (5kg) need about 1/2 bag per day, medium dogs (15kg) about 1 bag, and large dogs (30kg+) about 2 bags. Use our dog profile calculator for personalized recommendations.
How do I transition my dog to McDuffy?
Follow a gradual 7–10 day plan:
- Days 1-3: 25% McDuffy + 75% current food
- Days 4-6: 50% McDuffy + 50% current food
- Days 7-9: 75% McDuffy + 25% current food
- Day 10+: 100% McDuffy
Most dogs transition smoothly — some love it enough to switch right away!
How do I store McDuffy fresh dog food?
Keep bags frozen until ready to use (up to 6 months). Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or in warm water for 30 minutes. Once thawed, keep refrigerated and use within 7 days. Each 500g bag is individually sealed for convenience. Never refreeze thawed portions.
Can I mix McDuffy with my dog's current food?
Yes! Many dog parents mix McDuffy with kibble as a "topper" or do a 50/50 split. During transition, we actually recommend mixing. Even adding a small amount of fresh food to your dog's diet can significantly improve their nutrition and digestion.
