Real food for your best friend

Human Grade & AAFCO Certified

Quality & Certifications

From our human-grade production facility to your dog's bowl, every step of the McDuffy process is held to the highest standards. Here is exactly how we ensure the food your dog eats is safe, nutritious, and consistently excellent.

Our Standards: Why Quality Is Non-Negotiable

McDuffy was built on a simple premise: if you would not eat it yourself, your dog should not eat it either. That principle drives every decision we make, from the ingredients we source to the facility where we cook, the labs that test our food, and the cold chain that delivers it to your doorstep in Metro Manila.

The Philippine pet food market has long been dominated by mass-produced kibble and imported canned foods. Many of these products are manufactured in feed-grade facilities — meaning they are held to lower safety and sanitation standards than the food you buy for your own kitchen. McDuffy breaks from that model entirely. We produce all of our recipes in a facility that meets human food safety standards, and we apply the same quality control protocols used by restaurants and food manufacturers that serve people.

We do this not because it is easy or cheap, but because it is the right way to make dog food. When you open a bag of McDuffy, you should be able to see real pieces of beef, fish, chicken, vegetables, and rice. You should be able to smell food that smells like food. And you should be confident that what is inside that bag matches exactly what is printed on the label.

AAFCO Compliance: What It Means and Why It Matters

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) establishes the nutrient profiles that define what "complete and balanced" means for dog food. These profiles specify minimum (and in some cases maximum) levels for over 40 essential nutrients, including proteins, fats, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. A food that meets AAFCO nutrient profiles for adult maintenance can serve as a dog's sole diet without risk of nutritional deficiency.

Every McDuffy recipe is formulated to meet AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for adult maintenance. This formulation is not done by our marketing team or a general practitioner — it is performed by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist (DACVN) using professional nutrition software that models complete nutrient profiles down to milligrams per kilocalorie of energy.

AAFCO compliance is verified through two methods: formulation (calculating that the recipe design meets nutrient profiles) and laboratory analysis (testing the finished product to confirm the calculations are accurate). McDuffy uses both. Our recipes are formulated to meet AAFCO profiles and then independently lab-tested to verify the guaranteed analysis. This dual verification gives us — and you — confidence that the nutrition on the label reflects the nutrition in the bag.

It is worth noting that AAFCO compliance is not required by Philippine law for pet food. We hold ourselves to this standard voluntarily because it is the gold standard globally, and Filipino dogs deserve the same level of nutritional rigor as dogs anywhere in the world.

Human-Grade Production: What It Actually Means

The term "human-grade" is one of the most misused phrases in the pet food industry. Many brands use it loosely to suggest their ingredients are high quality, when in reality their food is produced in feed-grade facilities that would never pass inspection for human food production.

For McDuffy, human-grade means something specific and verifiable: our food is produced in a facility that is licensed and inspected for human food manufacturing. Every ingredient that enters our production line is sourced from suppliers approved for human food supply chains. The cooking equipment, sanitation protocols, and storage conditions all meet the standards required for food you would find in a grocery store or restaurant.

This distinction matters for safety and quality. Human food facilities are subject to stricter sanitation requirements, more frequent inspections, and higher standards for ingredient handling and storage. The result is a product with lower risk of contamination, more consistent quality, and ingredients that are genuinely what they claim to be.

When we say McDuffy is human-grade, we mean you could eat it. Some of our team members have. It tastes like a mild, unseasoned stew — not exactly exciting for human palates, but that is because it is seasoned for dogs, not people.

Ingredient Sourcing: Where Our Food Comes From

Ingredient quality begins at the source. McDuffy partners with suppliers who meet our standards for freshness, traceability, and safety. We prioritize locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, supporting Philippine agriculture while reducing the time between harvest and production.

Our proteins — beef, pork, chicken, sardine, tilapia, and catfish — are sourced from suppliers approved for human food production. We use whole cuts and fillets, not rendered meals or by-products. Our vegetables — squash, moringa (malunggay), okra, water spinach (kangkong), carrots, broccoli, and sweet potato — are purchased fresh and inspected for quality before entering production.

We do not use ingredients that serve as cheap fillers in lower-quality pet foods. You will not find corn, wheat, soy, artificial preservatives, BHA, BHT, or meat by-products in any McDuffy recipe. Every ingredient is there because it serves a specific nutritional purpose, as determined by our veterinary advisory board. For a complete breakdown of every ingredient and its nutritional role, visit our ingredients page.

Lab Testing & Guaranteed Nutritional Analysis

We do not ask you to take our word for it. Every McDuffy recipe undergoes independent laboratory testing by an accredited third-party lab. These tests verify the guaranteed analysis printed on our packaging, confirming that the protein, fat, fiber, moisture, and caloric content of the finished product matches our formulation targets.

Below are the current guaranteed analyses for all three McDuffy recipes:

Surf & Turf (Beef & Fish)

Nutrient Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein (min.) 16.5%
Crude Fat (min.) 10%
Crude Fiber (max.) 1%
Moisture (max.) 70%
Caloric Content 1,648 kcal/kg (as fed)

Farmyard Feast (Pork, Chicken & Fish)

Nutrient Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein (min.) 17%
Crude Fat (min.) 6%
Crude Fiber (max.) 1%
Moisture (max.) 75%
Caloric Content 1,188 kcal/kg (as fed)

Coastal Blend (Fish)

Nutrient Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein (min.) 14%
Crude Fat (min.) 5%
Crude Fiber (max.) 1%
Moisture (max.) 68%
Caloric Content 1,395 kcal/kg (as fed)

These values represent the "as fed" basis, meaning the nutrient percentages of the food as it comes out of the bag, including its natural moisture content. Because fresh food contains significantly more moisture than kibble (which is typically 10% moisture), the protein and fat percentages may appear lower at first glance. However, on a dry matter basis — which accounts for the water content — McDuffy's protein and fat levels are comparable to or higher than many premium kibbles.

For context, our Surf & Turf recipe has a dry matter protein content of approximately 55%, and our Farmyard Feast comes in at approximately 68% dry matter protein. These are robust protein levels that reflect the high proportion of real animal protein in every recipe.

Cold Chain Delivery: From Our Kitchen to Your Doorstep

Fresh food demands a fresh delivery system. Unlike kibble, which can sit on a shelf for months, McDuffy is a perishable product that must be kept cold from the moment it is packaged until it reaches your freezer. In Metro Manila's tropical climate, where daytime temperatures regularly exceed 30°C, maintaining the cold chain is not optional — it is essential for food safety.

Here is how our cold chain works:

  1. Blast Freezing: After cooking, each bag of McDuffy is blast-frozen to lock in freshness, nutrients, and flavor. Blast freezing is faster than conventional freezing, which means smaller ice crystals form within the food. This preserves the cellular structure of ingredients and results in better texture and nutrient retention when thawed.
  2. Insulated Packaging: Orders are packed in insulated bags with gel ice packs designed to maintain freezing temperatures throughout the delivery window. Our packaging is tested for Metro Manila's heat and humidity conditions to ensure food arrives frozen or deeply chilled.
  3. Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery: We deliver across Metro Manila — including Makati, BGC, Taguig, Quezon City, Pasig, and Mandaluyong — with delivery windows designed to minimize time in transit. Orders are dispatched from cold storage, not from a room-temperature warehouse.
  4. Storage Instructions: Every order includes clear storage and thawing instructions. McDuffy should be stored in the freezer and thawed in the refrigerator before serving. Properly stored, frozen McDuffy maintains its quality for several months.

Our cold chain protocol was designed by our food safety specialist specifically for the Philippine market. We understand the unique challenges of delivering fresh food in a tropical country, and our system is built to handle them.

Batch Traceability & Continuous Improvement

Every production batch of McDuffy is assigned a unique batch number that allows us to trace the finished product back to the specific ingredients used, the production date and time, the cooking temperatures and durations, and the lab test results for that batch. This traceability system means that if any quality issue were ever identified, we could quickly isolate the affected products and take corrective action.

We view quality as an ongoing process, not a one-time achievement. Our quality assurance team conducts regular internal audits, reviews lab results from every production run, and continuously evaluates our processes for improvement opportunities. When new food safety research or best practices emerge, we integrate them into our operations.
